SOTU: The Dress

Okay, let's be forreal, this is the only reason I watched about 3.5 seconds of last night's State of the Union: Michelle Obama's dress.

This year, FLOTUS decided on a more demure, yet still extremely chic, forest green Aalia number. Not one to stray away from the accessories, the ensemble featured a full skirt, over-sized belt & a cropped jacket. 

Mrs. Obama's style never seizes to amaze me!

Office Style

Getting dressed in the mornings can be the most pressing part of the day. SO to save me some time, I have a go-to outfit. It's simple & fast, which is right up my ally- especially on a Monday morning. I love pairing a solid color top, with a solid color skirt & tights, matching booties & a scarf to add a pop of color to an otherwise boring ensemble. It works every time. Of course most days my basics aren't so, ummm well basic; however, who can beat just a quick & chic look?! I highly recommend going out & finding a skirt that's a fun color & pairing it with an even more vibrant scarf. Who says office style can't be fun?!

Critics' Choice 2014

Well, you all, award season is in full bloom! Last week I posted my top 5 looks from the Golden Globes (here), & today I bring you my 2 fave looks from the Critics' Choice Awards.

Hands down, Lupita has topped the list again. Her red carpet style is just impeccable. I am looking forward to what she'll be wearing as the season progresses!

My other top pick is Aisha Tyler. I mean, the lady knows how to wear body-hugging, black lace. I die!

OOTD: Plaid & Fur

Hey all-

How's your week so far? Mine has been super busy. Because I get the pleasure (sarcasm at its finest) to work this weekend, I went into the office Monday at 1:30, which meant I got to workout before work. Then I was in Charlottesville Tuesday & Wednesday for training. I'm looking forward to having off Friday to relax & prepare to hold down the office all weekend solo. Wish me luck!

I wore this particular outfit Christmas day. My family didn't do anything formal, so I decided against a bronze sequin sweater & opted for faux fur & plaid with a festive red lip. It's casual, yet not too casual, which was perfect for breakfast at my aunt's house.

Music Monday

Hi everyone-

I hope you all had a fab weekend! Mine was nothing to brag about; however, I did get Chinese takeout, drink wine, get two workouts in & went to the hair salon. I didn't get any shopping done, but that is because I recently just purchased a dress, earrings, faux fur jacket & clutch for an upcoming black tie event I'll be attending in a couple of weeks.

Today, I do not have a video for you, I have a great song with an even greater beat. Yes, it's another Katy Perry song. This particular one features rapper Juicy J & is probably one of the better songs to dance to. When I heard it the last week, I immediately headed to iTunes to purchase it. Hope you enjoy this!

New: Sephora

Hi everyone-

This post is way overdue. I partook in a little Black Friday shopping. Granted, it was online, but I scored some great products. It had been a while since I'd purchased anything from Sephora (blame moving, then not working, blah blah blah), so I was thrilled when mom decided to treat me.

For a while, I'd been wanting to try a new shade of NARS lip gloss in Dolce Vita. I have Orgasm & although it's a "universal color", it just didn't look right on me. Dolce Vita is more a dusty rose shade as opposed to peach, which looks a lot better with my skintone. I am in love with this lip color & can't wait to purchase the blush, lipstick & matte lip pencil when it's back in stock.

I was also on the hunt for a good lip moisturizer since the weather was just getting cold. I've tried & loved Rosebud Salve, but wanted to try something new. In comes FAB Ultra Repair Lip Therapy. This product is great to wear at night or under lip color. I wear mine mostly at night since I find it to be too thick during the day. I honestly can't wait to try more from First Aid Beauty.

I had heard amazing things about Josie Maran's product line infused with 100% argan oil. Being someone who has oily skin, I was a little skeptical about trying the face oil. Thankfully, she created a light version. Surprisingly, this did not make my skin oily or greasy & it has improved the softness of my skin. I started off mixing it with my daily moisturizer, but once I learned it wouldn't break me out, I chose to use it on its own. It's a great product & I"ll be buying it again, along with this lip gloss.

I'd also heard great things about GlamGlow. I ordered the Youthmud. I'm not sure what my reasoning behind that was, but I do like it. I probably won't buy it again because I'm not a fan of the tingling; however, I think the Supermud would be perfect for me.

I actually used a coupon code to receive a mysterious makeup bag. Naturally, I used it because who doesn't love free makeup. I must admit, I haven't used any of the sample makeup that was in the bag. If any of you have used the samples I received, let me know! OOTD: Peplum Love

Hi everyone-

Yay, my first post of 2014!!!! How was your NYE?!

I wore this outfit a couple of weeks ago to go out while my friend was in town. This is only the second time I've ever worn a peplum. I love the simplicity of this black top, but then I turn around & BOOM, there's a little skin showing. Because the top is a solid color, I wanted to add a little sparkle & shine with my accessories- hence the statement necklace, glitter heels, shiny blazer & green clutch.
